Controlled Freedom - The Allies in Vienna

Invitation to visit the exhibition

The Educational Institute of the Freedom Party of Austria and the Freedom Party Academy Vienna invite you to visit the exhibition "Controlled Freedom - The Allies in Vienna" at the Wien Museum.

Date: Tuesday, June 17, 2025, tour begins at 4:45 p.m.
Meeting point at 4:30 p.m. in front of the Wien Museum at Karlsplatz

Location: Wien Museum, Karlsplatz 8, 1040 Vienna

Registration: seminare-akademie-wien@fpoe.at

The program includes an expert guided tour through the exhibition curated by Oliver Rathkolb at the Wien Museum on the liberation of the city of Vienna in early April 1945, a period marked by destruction, housing shortages, hunger, and cold. Cultural life, however, quickly returned, as theater performances resumed on April 27 by order of Soviet officers. Shortly thereafter, the other Allies – France, Great Britain, and the USA – also made their cultural presence felt. During the Allied presence, the city was more than ever a center of international artistic influences. These numerous cultural activities, in addition to economic and political reconstruction, were intended to provide the emotional foundation for the emergence of an "Austrian consciousness." The exhibition "Controlled Freedom" illuminates the formative influence of the diverse cultural offerings. It thus documents the successful attempt to create a democratic Austrian identity, which continues to this day.

PLEASE NOTE: For organizational reasons, mandatory registration is required at the following email address: seminare-akademie-wien@fpoe.at.

The tour will be held in German.
